The Canberra Raiders have gone within touching distance of the NRL Grand Final after defeating the Melbourne Storm 12-10 at AAMI Park on Saturday night.

Despite the match being riddled with penalties, the Raiders managed to clinch a victory thanks to a late try from John Bateman, reminiscent of Round 22’s late victory against the Storm also at AAMI Park.

The Raiders are the first team to defeat Melbourne twice in one season on their home turf since the Bulldogs in 2014.

The win means the Green Machine have a week off before playing in the preliminary final at GIO Stadium, one win away from the Grand Final.

An early blow for Canberra saw Joey Leilua taken from the field before the match had even started after getting a firework shell in his eye.
